Tactic Remote 1.8.0: Chat Mode, Quick Prompts, and Mobile Review

Tactic Remote 1.8.0 is now available.

This release focuses on a key part of mobile AI coding: once an agent starts changing code, you need more than a way to see that it is still running. You need to inspect changes, reuse common prompts, and understand whether the app and companion server are on compatible versions.

Tactic Remote is moving from a remote terminal companion toward a mobile workspace for AI coding.

Chat Mode is now the recommended default

Chat Mode has been refined in 1.8.0 and is now the recommended way to use Tactic Remote.

The interface is easier to read on iPhone and iPad. Messages are clearer, tool-call cards are easier to scan, Thinking sections are easier to distinguish, and streaming output feels more stable.

Terminal Mode is still available when you want raw terminal output. For most daily sessions, Chat Mode makes it faster to understand what the agent did, where it is blocked, and whether it needs your input.

Quick Prompts make repeat work reusable

Many AI coding tasks reuse the same instructions:

• Review the current diff
• Explain a bug
• Summarize the current session
• Add tests for a change
• Decide whether a set of changes should continue

The Quick Prompts Library lets you save these common instructions and trigger them quickly from your phone.

This matters especially on mobile. You may only be checking a session between meetings, while commuting, or away from your desk. Rewriting a careful review or debugging prompt every time adds friction.

Quick Prompts turn repeated actions into reusable workflow steps.

Review Git changes from your phone

Tactic Remote 1.8.0 improves the way Git changes and file diffs can be reviewed from mobile.

You can see which files changed, open diffs, and judge whether the agent is moving in the right direction while the session is still active. The phone is no longer only a place to send prompts and read output. It can also support part of the review and decision process.

This is especially useful after an agent finishes a task. The important question is not only whether it completed, but what it changed and whether those changes are worth keeping.

Server compatibility is clearer

This release also improves About Server and compatibility messaging.

After connecting to a companion server, Tactic Remote can show server version, protocol version, platform information, and supported capabilities more clearly. If the app and server versions do not match, the warning is easier to understand.

Tactic Remote has several moving parts: the iOS app, the Mac companion app, and the server runtime. A remote coding tool should not make users guess whether a missing feature is caused by settings, version mismatch, or platform differences.

Mac companion reliability improvements

The Mac companion app also receives reliability improvements in 1.8.0.

Prevent Sleep support can help keep the Mac available while the server is running, which matters for longer AI coding sessions. The Mac app continues to support in-app update checks, so future updates do not always require a fresh manual download.

These changes make the companion app feel more like dependable infrastructure rather than a one-time setup utility.

Localization and visual consistency

This version also continues the localization and visual consistency pass.

Settings, first-run setup, and workflow pages now use a more consistent themed background. Release copy and interface copy have also been refined across supported languages.

Small details like this shape the overall experience. Moving between setup, Chat Mode, review workflows, and server management now feels more coherent.
