One Command to Connect: npx tacticremote

We've published the Tactic Remote server as an npm package. Starting a server is now a single command:

npx tacticremote

No global install. No config files. No Homebrew tap. Just run the command in your terminal, scan the QR code with the Tactic Remote iOS app, and you're connected.

Why npx?

Previously, connecting your iPhone to Claude Code required either downloading the Mac menu bar app or installing via Homebrew. Both work great, but they add steps — especially if you're on a new machine, a Linux server, or a remote VM where you can't run a GUI app.

With npx tacticremote, the server runs anywhere Node.js is installed. That means:

• Mac, Linux, or any machine with Node.js — no platform-specific installer needed.
• Remote VMs and cloud instances — SSH in, run the command, scan the QR code from your phone.
• Zero setup on new machines — npx downloads the package on the fly and cleans up after.

How It Works

When you run npx tacticremote, the server:

1. Starts a WebSocket server on port 8765.
2. Detects your local IP and prints a QR code in the terminal.
3. Waits for the Tactic Remote iOS app to connect.

Once connected, you get full access to your Claude Code sessions — send prompts, approve tool calls, browse files, and receive push notifications, all from your iPhone.

Options

The CLI supports the same options as the Mac app:

npx tacticremote [options]

  -p, --port <n>      Port to listen on          (default: 8765)
  --path <dir>        Allowed base directory      (default: $HOME)
  --api-key <key>     Require authentication key
  --tunnel            Enable Cloudflare tunnel for remote access
  --no-qr             Don't show QR code
  -h, --help          Show this help

For remote access outside your local network, add --tunnel to automatically create a Cloudflare tunnel — no account or configuration required.

Still Prefer Homebrew or the Mac App?

Nothing changes for existing users. The Mac menu bar app and Homebrew tap (brew install TacticSpaceTech/tap/tacticremote) remain fully supported. The npx option is simply a faster path for users who want to get started immediately or who work on non-Mac platforms.

Get the iOS app from the App Store and try it out — npx tacticremote is all you need on the server side.
