Tactic Remote v1.6: The Biggest Update Yet

Tactic Remote is now available on the App Store worldwide. v1.6 marks our official public launch across all global App Store regions. Mainland China will follow once regulatory approval is complete.

This is also our biggest release since launch. With 250+ files changed and dozens of new features, Tactic Remote goes from a remote terminal viewer to a complete mobile coding companion.

Chat Mode

A brand-new conversation interface sits alongside the terminal. Chat Mode gives you a dedicated view for interacting with Claude — send prompts, review responses, and approve tool calls in a clean chat layout. Side panels provide quick access to workspace info and session history without leaving the conversation.

iPad-Optimized Layout

iPad gets a native split-view experience built on NavigationSplitView. The server list, session panel, and chat area each get their own column, making full use of the larger screen. Hardware keyboard shortcuts are fully supported — navigate sessions, send messages, and trigger actions without touching the screen.

App Lock

Protect your coding sessions with Face ID or Touch ID. App Lock keeps your servers, API keys, and active sessions behind biometric authentication.

Pro Subscriptions and Free Trial

v1.6 introduces a Pro tier with StoreKit 2 subscriptions. New users get a free trial to explore all features before deciding. Free users still get full access to core remote terminal functionality with a session limit.

Cloud Speech-to-Text

Dictate prompts to Claude in 25+ languages with our new Cloud STT service. This complements the existing on-device Whisper model — choose local for privacy or cloud for broader language coverage and accuracy.

File Uploads

Upload files directly from your iPhone or iPad to the remote server. Attach images, documents, or any file to provide context for Claude. The upload pipeline supports chunked transfer over WebSocket with MIME type detection.

Git Workspace Panel

A new workspace panel shows live Git status for your project — current branch, changed files, and a browsable file tree with per-file status indicators. Git info refreshes automatically when you switch sessions or change directories.

Codex Agent Support

Tactic Remote now supports OpenAI Codex alongside Claude. Connect to either agent from the same interface — the server detects and manages both runtimes.

Fallback Connection

Configure both a LAN address and a Cloudflare tunnel for each server. If the primary connection drops, Tactic Remote automatically switches to the fallback — no manual reconnection needed. Connection status banners keep you informed of which path is active.

Live Activity and Widget Rewrite

The Lock Screen Live Activity has been rebuilt to show real-time Claude status — thinking, writing code, or waiting for input — right on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. The Home Screen widget now displays elapsed time, session name, and working directory at a glance.

Terminal Enhancements

• Search — find text in terminal output with highlight and scroll-to-match.
• Keyboard submit — tap the keyboard return key to send messages directly.
• In-app toast notifications — task completions surface as toast banners instead of system notifications when the app is in the foreground.
• Conversation export — export your session transcript for reference.

Mac Menu Bar Overhaul

The Mac companion gets its biggest update: a custom menu bar icon with a live client count badge, one-click copy for server URL / tunnel address / API key, direct tunnel management, and a language switcher supporting all 8 languages.

Session Management

Create sessions directly from the folder picker — no extra steps. Session history is persisted and auto-saved when the app goes to background. The session list shows active status badges and live timestamps.

Stability and Security

• All force unwraps eliminated across iOS and Mac codebases.
• Thread safety audited and hardened for concurrent WebSocket and Live Activity updates.
• PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest added for Apple compliance.
• Keychain accessibility hardened; server-controlled prompts sanitized.
