Sessions and Workflow

Tactic Remote uses tmux sessions to keep your Claude Code processes alive across disconnections. This page explains how sessions work and the daily workflow.

How sessions work

Each session maps to:

• A working directory (your project folder).
• A tmux session on your Mac that runs Claude Code.
• A terminal output stream shown on your iPhone.

Sessions persist even if:

• The iPhone app is closed or backgrounded.
• The network disconnects temporarily.
• The Mac goes to sleep and wakes up.

When you reconnect, the app restores the session and its terminal output.

Creating a session

1. Tap the session selector (top-left in the app).
2. Tap New Session.
3. Browse your Mac's file system and select a project directory.
4. Name the session (e.g. my-api, frontend-work).
5. Tap Create.

You can have multiple sessions for different projects and switch between them.

Starting Claude Code

Tap the Start button to launch Claude Code in the current session.

The app has duplicate-start protection: if Claude Code is already running in the session, tapping Start does nothing. This prevents accidental double launches.

Check before starting: Look at the status indicator. Green "Running" means Claude is already active -- no need to tap Start.

Sending prompts

Type in the chat input and send. Your prompt goes through the WebSocket to your Mac, which passes it to the Claude Code process. Output streams back in real time.

Quick actions

The app provides shortcut buttons for common terminal inputs:

• Enter -- submit input
• Escape -- cancel current operation
• Tab -- autocomplete
• Arrow keys -- navigate
• Ctrl+C -- interrupt

Reconnection

When the app loses connection (network change, backgrounding, etc.):

1. It automatically attempts to reconnect with exponential backoff.
2. On reconnection, it re-attaches to your existing tmux session.
3. Terminal output that accumulated during disconnection is restored.

You don't need to do anything -- just reopen the app.

If the view looks stale: Open the session selector and re-select your session. This forces a refresh.

Notifications

For long-running tasks, you don't need to keep the app open:

1. Claude Code supports hooks that fire when tasks complete.
2. The server relays these events as push notifications to your iPhone.
3. When the notification arrives, open the app to review the result.

Keep iOS notification permissions enabled for Tactic Remote.

Ending a session

• Stop Claude: Tap the Stop button to terminate the Claude Code process. The session remains available for restarting later.
• Delete session: From the session selector, swipe to delete. This removes the tmux session from your Mac.
