First Remote Session

This tutorial walks you through a complete cycle: connecting, running a real task, watching the output, and verifying the result. By the end, you'll have used every part of the workflow.

Prerequisite: Complete the Getting Started guide first. You should have the Mac app running and the iPhone app connected.

1. Verify your connection

Open Tactic Remote on your iPhone. The connection indicator should be solid green. If not:

• Make sure the Mac app is running (check the menu bar icon).
• Make sure both devices are on the same WiFi (for local mode).
• Re-enter your server address if needed.

2. Create a test session

1. Tap the session selector (top-left).
2. Tap New Session.
3. Select a project directory you're familiar with -- a small repo is ideal.
4. Name it test-session.
5. Tap Create.

3. Start Claude Code

Tap Start. Claude Code will launch inside a tmux session on your Mac. You should see its startup output on your iPhone within 2-3 seconds.

4. Run a read-only task

Send this prompt:

Describe this project in 2-3 sentences. What languages and frameworks does it use?

Watch the output stream in real time. Since this is a read-only task, Claude Code just reads files and reports -- no modifications, no approvals needed.

Verify: Does the description match your knowledge of the project? If yes, the end-to-end path is working correctly.

5. Run a write task

Now try something that modifies a file:

Create a file called HELLO.md with the text "Hello from Tactic Remote".

Claude Code will ask for approval before creating the file. You'll see the approval prompt on your iPhone -- tap Approve.

After it completes, verify:

Show me the contents of HELLO.md

Then clean up:

Delete HELLO.md

6. Test reconnection

1. Switch to another app on your iPhone for 30 seconds.
2. Switch back to Tactic Remote.

The session should restore automatically. If the terminal looks blank, open the session selector and re-select your session.

For a more thorough test, enable Airplane Mode for 15 seconds, then disable it and reopen the app. The connection should recover on its own.
